5 very lucky Blue Volunteers will assist the Marine Research Scientists on board of Auckland’s famous Whale & Dolphin Safari (AWADS). Enjoy an exclusive behind the scenes experience during this 4-5 hour trip on the large ‘Dolphin Explorer” Powercat around the beautiful Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
The odds to see marine life are great: 90% of these trips encounter dolphins, 70% find whales and 100% see plenty of sea birds.
AWADS works closely with the Department of Conservation and several universities to combine up-close viewing of whales, dolphins and sea birds with important marine-biology research conducted on board. A portion of your tour price will be go towards this cause.
Inclusions: Each Blue Volunteer receives a Photo Card worth $20 with pictures of the trip and the ‘Best Of AWADS’ album.
Restrictions: Not suitable for heavily pregnant women. Limited wheelchair access available on the boat. Anyone with physical disabilities that require human intervention must be accompanied by their caregivers/support people.
Return to Auckland Viaduct: app. 6pm
What to bring: Warm clothes, shower-proof jacket, sun hat & sunscreen, camera, binoculars, personal medication (if required), sea-sickness medication (should be taken prior to trip).
Available on board: A small range of snacks and food including water, juice, soft-drinks and beer & wine are available on board for purchase. Please do not bring your own alcohol on board.
Note: Minimum age is 15 years. Minors below the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Max 5 people.
